The video is going off an example of a 10/10 interval workout where you are constantly switching back and forth between periods of 10 seconds all out on the treadmill versus 10 seconds of you jumping off to the sides and resting on the treadmill for 10 seconds but of course you are not limited to that.
You can certainly vary your rest and work time during your own interval treadmill workout so for example instead of 10 seconds on and 10 seconds off you can do a 3 second on and off interval and you could even make your treadmill intervals different in rest and work time so as another example…
You could go all out running for 20 secnds followed by you resting for 40 seconds and something like that where your rest periods are longer Than your work periods is highly recommend for beginners to start off with doing and then as you get in shape or as your treadmill workout gets easier and easier you can do make your rest and work times more equal or you can make your rest time much shorter than your work periods (that’s when you’re really advanced) but remember…
Whenever you do intervals on a treadmill or anything else your work periods should be at least a 7 0r 8 on a scale of 1-to-10 with 10 being super hard and your rest periods should be on zero or no more than 4 or 5.
In the video I mentioned a max of 10-to-20 minutes but 20-to-40 minutes is also okay but realistically if you’re able to do a 40+ interval workout more than 4 days per week then you really have to ask yourself how hard are you actually working because believe me…
When doing interval workouts on a treadmill or anything else you WILL NOT want to do more than 4 days per week unless you are highly motivated and even then it’s going to be tough. Cardio is something that is low intense where you can possible do daily. That won’t happen with 20-to-40 minute interval workouts that actually kick your butt!
