Hi Kelly. Im just starting doing HIIT on treadmill. But I can't do (yet) the 6.5/9 speed interval. Can I do a fast walk (3.5) and a jog (6.5) to do this? Im 40 yrs old 5'5" @ 195 lbs. Also, how often should I do this HIIT workout in a week? thanks,

hi there i spend around 20 Min on treadmill . i start around 6.5 for 2 min then i go up to 9 for 3 to 4 Min then 4.5 for 2 Min to get my breath back and so on for 20 min. is this good way to loose fat? coz when I started used to not push much but now sometime i reach on 10 speed for 2 min…

I love interval training ! I have lost 50lbs in a much shorter amount of time using HIIT than I did with those long, boring cardio workouts. The elliptical at my gym has an interval option but I don't use it. What I do is keep the incline the same but increase the resistance and my speed for 2 minutes. Then decrease the resistance and speed for 2 minutes. I repeat this 10 times. Very effective workout !

how about 10 in a month. I went up cz I was too skinny, but you can also go down in weight. look for a website called 10 in 30.

I suggest you work on your base for 3-6 months: gradually increase the duration of moderately exercise until you can run/cycle/stair climb for 90 minutes or so. Then begin HIIT (REALLY hard), working up to 2 sessions/week. Intersperse lactate threshold ("tempo") runs, lactate threshold intervals, and long slow distance. Alternate intensities (hard day/easy day), then (hard/moderate/easy), then (hard/hard/moderate/moderate), etc., gradually incorporating a greater proportion of hard workouts.
The common formulas for "max HR" are all very inaccurate because there is so much interindividual (and even intra-individual) variability. You have to determine your maximum HR using a functional test. One way is to do a 30 minute time trial (race; all-out effort). The average HR during the last 20 min is your lactate threshold HR, which is much more important than your "max." All your workouts should revolve around this zone. Google Joe Friel or "HR training lactate threshold" for more detail.
I wonder if most people know you can just type in the number of the speed you want on the number pad on most treadmills. Sometimes you have to hit the "up" arrow first then type…but the holding the button down thing can get a bit distracting.

I do 4 minutes at 65% and 2 minutes at 90-95% until i complete 30 minutes, wich makes 6 sprints. Its sucking up my belly fat so damn fast. Its awesome.
So sexy..do you skip rope?should def incorporate that in your training if not. Burns the same amount of calories at a high intensity plus it gives you and upper body workout as well.
